The construction of the new Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff (United Kingdom) has reached a new milestone: the end of the building’s main structure. This moment, known as ‘topping out’, represents an important point for the development of the project. The new cancer treatment centre aims to meet the growing needs for cancer care in Wales. Once completed, it will serve 1.7 million people.

The facility will cover an area of 60,000 sqm and will offer state-of-the-art radiotherapy and systemic cancer therapy treatments. To this end, it will have one of the largest radiotherapy units in the UK, equipped with 10 cutting-edge lineal accelerators.

This project will improve the quality of care and clinical outcomes for patients in Wales through first-class cancer treatment, improved diagnose capabilities, and greater access to innovation, training, and research.

Its design is also aligned with this objective, as materials that favor patient wellbeing were selected for its construction, with an open-plan layout, and a location on more than 7 hectares of land where patients can walk and be in contact with nature.

During the next phase, the installation of internal equipment and preparation of the building for commissioning will begin, with the aim of opening doors by 2027. Once finished, we will manage the operation and maintenance of the hospital for the next 25 years.
